Have you ever walked into someone’s house and felt like you were going to mess something up or get something dirty? It’s likely happened more often than not today.
Neutral colors are becoming increasingly popular in home decor, and we see a lot of white area rugs, beige couches, and vases full of pampas grass on Instagram.
This style can be very peaceful and relaxing, but it would be easy to make a personal space that looks like every other space on the internet.
I’m here to tell you that your living room can still be fashionable without making you feel like a Stepford wife. There are many ways to keep your home’s color scheme neutral while still making it look like you. Adding small touches of color to your living spaces makes them look like they belong on Instagram.
5 Colorful Ways to Decorate
Here are five easy ways to add a little color to your home.
1. Experiment With Vibrantly Colored Furniture
When you have a neutral color scheme to work with, you have a great base on which to try out different and bold furniture. A bright couch is a great way to make a room feel cozy and welcoming.
2. Accent Wall
If you like fluffy white rugs and tan sectional sofas like I do, making an accent wall could be a great way to add some color. You can also use patterned wallpaper or build a batten wall to add texture to your accent wall.
3. Wild Carpet
I love hardwood floors, but they can hurt your feet in the winter. Adding an area rug to a room can tie the space together and make it feel cozier, which is what we all want in our homes.
Even though neutral rugs are appealing, they can be tough to clean. Any room can feel more unique if you find a colorful rug. You can even find vintage rugs for a fraction of the price at a local thrift store.
4. Mix Decor
We can make our homes look and feel like us by using picture frames, wall hangings, vases, and little trinkets. These elements can be any color, shape, or texture, and they can all give your room that pop of color you want.
5. Add Plants!
This is probably my favorite tip since I love house plants as much as interior design. Plants are a quick and easy way to bring color into any room. Many articles and studies say having plants in your home is good for your health. Don’t know how to grow plants? No worries! Many house plants are almost impossible to kill, don’t need much care, and look great on any side table.
There are many different ways to add color to your home and make it your own. Don’t be afraid to go against what Instagram and Pinterest are doing, and start experimenting with color in every room of your house.
